I'll begin by posting the Richard Florida material that sparked this particular bugaboo.
The On Point episode.
The article from the Atlantic.
An interview with Florida from the same issue of the Atlantic here, and a multimedia feature here.
And finally, a visual aid of Florida's theories from the graphic design firm Alphachimp Studio and their PopTech program.

I've just been listening to the On Point WBUR show and some major points that I find interesting are:
ReplyDeleteMany people in this RESET are moving to other countries such as Latin America, China, India, Turganistan.....to seek out opportunities. Finally, Florida says that immigration to the United States is down.
Something else: We are a "plug and play" society. Meaning there is wireless everywhere and we have instant access to communication through iphones and technology, these assets are making D.C. a suburb of New York. Journalists from the New York Times are relocated there because it is cheaper to live....NPR correspondants are focused there more so than NY at this time. It's a major political epicenter, and there are figures working for New York but living in Maryland. This is all possible because of we are all connected and so easily tapped.
He also says Toyota is the largest manufacturer, larger even than Google and Amazon!!! What??
ReplyDeleteAnd he mentions he is NOT anti-manufacture.
